Fort Mahon Plage. 6th - 20th June 2016
Hired Malcolm and Marie - Anne's apartment for two weeks. Places we visited on our travels. Boulogne, Berck, Amien. Arras, Le Touquet and Albert which is where the museum about the Somme is. There was a centenary exhibition in the nearby church. Notre Dame De Brebieres. It is a stunning church. I bought Marie -Anne and me a copy of the Flanders poem and Marie -Anne bought me a little silver figure of the Virgin Mary it is beautiful. I was quite overwhelmed by the museum it is so well equipped and really sad. It gives a total of all the deaths of each country. Britain lost 35 percent of their troops. It really makes you feel humble when you see the conditions that these soldiers fought in for us to have a life. It is a well run war museum and definitely worth a visit. The museum sits within a beautiful garden. The Poppy's are stunning but the French adopted the blue cornflower for their emblem and when you see the two flowers together it is something special. Arthur managed quite a few days fishing at Sant Martine sure authy. The weather was very mixed. A few days of rain but didn't cause any great hardship. The euro 2016 tournament started while we were there so it would have been churlish not to support France. We had a good time watching the opening ceremony in one of the local bars. It was also the music festival on our last weekend at Fort Mahon Plage some of the bands were very good. All in all a lovely holiday. Northern France is very beautiful.
